About

Mission: to teach creative writing to youth who are incarcerated to empower their voices and assist in their re-entry into society. 
Vision: to reduce the recidivism rates of our residents and participate in the transformation of the juvenile justice system.

Goals
:
  1. Increase our residents’ literacy levels and writing dispositions. 
  2. Build our residents’ self-esteem, self-efficacy, and self-awareness. 
  3. Provide our residents with positive peer mentorship. 
  4. Publish our residents’ creative writing into chapbooks to showcase and distribute within juvenile facilities, on campuses, and throughout the local communities.
  5. Advocate for our residents by raising awareness and educating our communities about the criminal justice system/juvenile justice system.
Transcribers:
  • Type up our residents' artifacts from the creative writing workshops.
  • Edit our residents' artifacts by correcting their spelling, syntax, and grammar.
  • Review the instructions and transcriptions to minimize mistakes and errors.
Facilitators:
  • Engage with 3-5 residents.
  • Participate in the creative writing workshops.
  • Enforce the creative writing workshop’s expectations for the residents and student volunteers.
  • Promote the program and organization to individuals within their personal and professional spheres.
Cohort Leader(s):
  • Manage the cohort’s student volunteers.
  • Recruit new student volunteers.
  • Train the new student volunteers.
  • Lead the creative writing workshops.
  • Host at least 1 event per semester to distribute and showcase the resident’s creative writing, fundraise for the cohort, and educate our communities about the juvenile justice system.
